Jackrabbits

Tha Jackrabbit Program

The Jackrabbit Program is designed to introduce children aged 5 to 12 years to the sport of cross-country skiing.  In this program, the focus is on having fun, participating, and developing skills!  The program provides an opportunity for kids to learn at their own pace.

Bunnies

  • Skis: Waxless skis are preferred.  The skis should be around the same height as the skier.

  • Poles: no poles for bunnies!  They need to work on balance before adding poles.

Levels 1 and 2

  • Skis: Waxable or waxless.

  • Poles: Introduced in Level 2.  The poles should reach up to the skier's underarm.

Level 3

  • Skis: Skate equipment is not yet required. Skiers can be introduced to skate skiing with classic skis.

  • When skate skiing, the skier should remove all grip wax from the kick zone and add glide to the entire length of the skis.

  • For classic technique sessions, place grip wax in the kick zone.

Level 4

  • Skis: In level 4, it is best to have skate ski equipment for skiers in addition to classic ski equipment.

  • Poles: Both skate and classic lenths. Skate poles should come to the child’s chin.
